Tollygunge Golf Club – Kolkata (redesign)
18 Hole, Par 72
When Sir William Cruickshank acquired 100 acres of land just outside what was then known as Calcutta in 1895 and founded the Tollygunge Club I wonder if he envisaged that over 115 years later his vision would remain as one of the most unique golf destinations in the world. The golf course that meanders its way through century old trees, before finishing at a club house building over 200 years old is full of charm and a grace that is rarely experienced in modern golf.
Over recent years, Golf Architects Pacific Coast Design have been charged with reviewing and updating the greens complexes. Given the changes in technology as well as greater demands of safety standards Pacific Coast Design have had to apply themselves at producing new greens and bunkering that relate to the modern game, enhance the golf hole strategy but retain the charm and unique feeling that is Tolly.
