Minnippi Golf Course – Cannon Hill, Queensland

18 Hole Par 72 – 6,035 metre, 6600 Yard

Minnippi Golf Course is the first public golf course to be developed in Brisbane for 70 years on a 72 hectare parcel of 125 hectare of land owned by the City of Brisbane alongside of Bulimba Creek. Designed by Pacific Coast Design and developed by the BMD Group the golf course is set to establish new standards for golf in Australia.

Approximately 75,000 native trees and shrubs have been planted as a part of the project’s regeneration and revegetation plan. Protection and enhancement of Squirrel Glider habitat has been specifically targeted to increase numbers and provide a sustainable habitat. Establishment of wetlands and native grasslands have been a part of the design process. The golf course has been shaped to shed water to the sides where it is collected in swales by a fully proactive and automated recycling / drainage system. Excess water then moves into a major subsurface drain system which collects the water and is then physically pumped out of the interconnected system into the irrigation lake to be once again recycled. Fifteen of the golf holes are within a flood plane and shaping / bulk earthworks has significantly improved this providing additional protection to the zone. This is the first golf course in Australia to be designed in the last 30 years without any sand bunkers, instead PCD has created golf hazards with timber faced mounding which will not be impacted by flooding and will give the links an old fashioned ‘look’ from day one.

In between all of the above is a great golf course that brings new meaning to the word sustainable.
